I'm undoubtedly a bit biased because I miss what Hog Island used to be. I have fond memories of coming here with a group of friends, bringing our own picnic stuff, getting cost effective bags of different types of oysters and shucking it ourselves. It was what made the extra drive worth it compared to going to the Ferry Building. It was what we used to take out of towners to because it was a uniquely Bay Area experience. It's not a terribly special experience anymore but the staff and the view is what made this a 4 star review. Alas, now there's only one type of oyster, no outside food nor drinks are allowed (except for wine with a corkage fee and birthday cakes) and the food is pricey especially with the 20% autograt plus 5% extra surcharge. The food is mostly appetizer/snack type food so might not be enough for a meal for some. We ordered basically the entire menu for 5 adults and was craving something more substantial afterward. Food wise, everything was good and won't disappoint but also not mind blowing. The oysters and ingredients are all super fresh, high quality, and local. I'm usually a raw oyster person but the chipotle bourbon butter on the grilled oysters make them worth trying. The one dish I didn't care for was the ceviche bc the flavors were too tart without anything to balance it out. My friend thought the tuna bowl tasted like what you'd get at any average poke place. One thing hog island has not lost though is some of the warmest and nicest people on their staff. And the view continues to be amazing. So while hog island has lost some of its charm for me, it's still not a bad way to spend a few hours.

Breathtaking bay views and exceptional oysters--reservations required on weekends. Hog Island's Marshall location offers an unparalleled dining experience. The stunning view of Tomales Bay provides a picturesque backdrop that transforms a meal into a memorable occasion. Eating outside next to the water makes for a truly delightful afternoon. The star of the show is undoubtedly the oysters - incredibly fresh and bursting with briny flavor. It's clear why Hog Island has made such a name for itself in the oyster world. Don't miss the charcuterie board - a tasty complement to the seafood offerings. The variety and quality of the selections make it a worthy addition to your order. The combination of exceptional food and breathtaking scenery creates an experience that's hard to beat in the Bay Area. Whether you're a local or a visitor, Hog Island in Marshall is a must-visit destination for seafood lovers and anyone looking to soak in the beauty of the California coast.

I truly miss the $5 per person bbq days, but I'll always be grateful I got to experience it while it lasted! The menu is limited now, but it's all good because we're here for the oysters. I've had oysters plucked straight from the puget sound, the bayous of Louisiana, the gold coat of Australia and from the tapas of Barcelona and baby let me tell you, this is it. The best I've ever had.

What a vibe - first off - no one tells you that when you drive up from SF or down from Jenner Beach, you will not have phone service. So no GPS. Thankfully, it's very clear to see the building, you can't miss it. On arrival, you can see how the harvest, clean and store the oysters it almost feels like a tour. My mother was fascinated and started asking a staff member a few questions and for the duration of our trip, my mother kept telling everyone random oyster facts. finally there is a little stand where you place your order and there is a little grill as well. The choices were simple- they had the highwater ones- the small ones were used for the freshly shucked, and the medium size for the grilled oysters. We had the grilled oysters at Tony's (a 3 minute drive away- feel free to read my review) so we just had the fresh, shucked oysters. Despite being west coast- they had a nice brine. It was such a nice relaxing experience sipping drinks, having oysters and just watching the bay.

Now I don't want to sound like some silly hipster who was here "before it was cool" but I do kind of miss the early days when it was just a couple tables and an upturned boat for some beer. That being said, if you can get a reservation: DOIT. Stop in Point Reyes station and grab bread and cheese, and then have the best picnic lunch you can imagine. Take the drinking easy tho- it might be cold but the sun is strong and all roads out of there are narrow and twisty as all get out. Bring a cooler and grab a couple bags to take home (Get your drink on there with no driving) and you can keep the oyster fest going.

I came here on the 4th of July and there were so many people lined up outside. This isn't a full sit down restaurant so expect there to be a wait! My partner and I ordered a serving of grilled bourbon butter oysters and two dozens of sweet water raw oysters. The grilled oysters were spectacular. It was so sweet and savory. I was expecting it to be on the bitter side because of the bourbon but it was amazing. Now for my favorite part, the raw oysters! I absolutely love oysters and have eaten these at their SF restaurant so I knew it was going to taste delicious. The oysters were so so so sweet and chewy and tasted amazing with their mignonette, lemon, and some hot sauce! We also saw some animals while we were eating too so that was really cute. A delicious meal with a gorgeous view of nature ^ ^

Whoa, this place has a cool vibe, but please moderate your expectations before coming here. This place is known for its fresh and delicious selection of oysters, and I frequently go to their location in the Ferry building, which always a good selection of delicious and fresh oysters. So I finally made the trek to come out to their farm and get oysters from the source-- but was but delighted and disappointed. Its quite a drive out to get here, and if your goal is to eat (dine in) fresh oysters, all the oysters get put on ice first, so the difference in freshness in you making the drive versus their trucks driving down from SF, isn't very clear to me. They usually only have one kind of raw shucked oyster-- which for us was a let down given the long drive. Price was also around $4, so not getting a crazy deal coming all the way out. For to-go, they have a good variety and sizes of unshucked oysters, and price was around ~$3 each. Aside from raw oysters, the bbq oysters were good, and they had a interesting (but limited) selection of other food, including a seafood platter, and meat and cheese platter, etc. Ample alcohol options. The venue is nice and simple, and they have a solid view of the water. Weather was sunny with a light wind. Parking and seating is limited. It wasn't too big of a problem when we went tho. Overall we liked the vibe of the place, and is a nice cozy place to eat oysters with a view of the water, if you are in the area. Food selection is more limited, and if you are looking for a more traditional restaurant and menu, they also own Tony's Seafood which is a bit down the road.

Delicious raw oysters in a beautiful environment. The setting really can't be beat! Eating flavorful and fresh raw oysters right next to the ocean was such a lovely experience. We came on a Thursday, when only walk-ins are allowed, and I highly recommend it--there's much fewer people than usual, so the environment is very relaxing. I enjoyed the 70s/80s playlist as well. Some tips: you can buy unshucked seafood pretty much anytime at the shack; however, if you want to sit down and dine at the picnic tables, on some days you need reservations, and the hours are quite particular. So double check the hours before coming to dine! Why one star off? Unfortunately, their wine pours are very stingy. I ordered the rose, and even though it was tasty, the amount they gave me was shockingly small. In the picture I've shared here, that's only a little less than what they gave me. What a shame. So you might want to avoid that. Otherwise, a great experience!

No trip to Point Reyes is complete without a stop at Hog Island. But be prepared to get turned away unless the luck of the oysters are on your side or you have the foresight to book a reservation! Parking is limited, so be mindful of other vehicles and signs on the road prohibiting public parking. We arrived early on a holiday Monday for lunch and it quickly filled up as we waited to place our order...Which took about fifteen minutes to see our waiter, a little too long for my liking. The wine list is hearty but the beers were a bit more disappointing and only from the can. Oysters are about the price you'd expect for table side service ($4 each), but if you have the gloves and shucker to crack open your own, their take home shells are much more affordable. No need for a reservation in that line! Every slurp was worth it through and absolutely delectable! The views were immaculate and I considered taking home the flaky salt on the table, it was that good with the bread and butter that's a must on the menu as well. We did have to wait about another twenty minutes to pay, so all in all service was slow, but have to take the busy holiday weekend. But it's definitely on our list to come back next getaway out of the city!

TIP: If coming from east bay, plan an 1-2 HOURS on top of your expected travel time. Our Google Maps made no indication that we would take 3.5 hours total instead of the estimated 2 LOL. We were EXTREMELY lucky that the staff decided to hold our table after I left several voice messages apologizing and updating them on our arrival time (it was also my partner's bday reservation), but I would not expect them to do this regularly. TY Hog Island staff for making my bf's bday so special :') Woooooow I've been to the SF location a few times but this Boat is totally worth the drive. The outdoor view is gorgeous-- sparkling bay waves, rolling green hills, clear skies, it's just the most idyllic scene...! I didn't know this ahead of time, but apparently tables are reserved for the entire afternoon :D So there's no rush dining. We did see a few walk-ins get turned away due to how busy it was (which made me even more grateful for the staff holding our table for so long!). The employees are so kind and lovely. OYSTERS: THEEEEE Hog Island oysters...! Definitely earned their title as some of the best Pacific oysters. Delectably creamy & sweet. MEZCAL LIME BUTTER GRILLED GULF PRAWNS: I'm typically not a mezcal fan but I do love a juicy prawn. Comes with bread to sop up that precious butter :P Love how the lime brings out so much of the smokiness + prawn flavor. CHIPOTLE BOURBON BUTTER GRILLED OYSTERS: Need to get these !!!! The butter is FLAMES. I actually liked these more than the raw oysters... I could eat a whole plate of these. Both great, but the butter really won me over. My bf's first time trying Hog Island and it lived up to all his expectations-- exceeded them, really. We were so thankful for the hospitality and will obviously be back :-)
